Calexico is about 122 miles (196 km) east of San Diego and 62 miles (100 km) west of Yuma, Arizona. The name “Calexico” is a portmanteau of California “Cal~” and Mexico “~exico”, which like that of the adjacent city of Mexicali, emphasizes its importance as a border city.
