Gulielm's Case

¶1Nota, in this case it was said by DODERIDGE, J., that if a passenger lodges three days in an inn successively, the hostler is not answerable for his goods if they be stolen out of his room. By the ancient law a traveler was so called the first day; for it is not known from whence he came; the second day he is called Hogen Hinde, and the third day a menial servant; and a hostler was heretofore answerable for him as for his menial servant in the leet.
