10 U.S.C. § 8012
Section 8012 · Department of the Air Force: seal
Amended 2 times on record
Applied in 14 court decisions — leading case Nixon v. Fitzgerald (1982)
Most recently applied in Strickland v. United States (September 2005)
How often courts cite this section
Court decisions citing this, by year.Markers show enactment, consequential amendments, and circuit splits over this section — watch for a citation surge after a change or a disagreement. The dip in the last several years is a data-coverage gap, not a real trend — our corpus holds fewer opinions from the most recent years, so recent citations are undercounted.
The Secretary of the Navy shall have a seal for the Department of the Navy. The design of the seal must be approved by the President. Judicial notice shall be taken of the seal.
