Most-quoted passages

The sentences later courts lift from this opinion, ranked by how many decisions quote each — the parts of the opinion doing the work. These counts are smaller than the citation total above because most of the 8 citing decisions cite the case generally; a passage count includes only decisions quoting that exact language verbatim.

  1. ““Dunn brought suit in the California State Superior Court against two corporations, residents of another state, upon a cause of action wholly arising in the other states. The corporations were doing business in California and had designated an agent upon whom service of summons could be served. Upon motion of the corporations the cause was removed to the United States District Court upon the grounds of diversity of citizenship. Thereupon the corporations defendants appeared specially and presented a motion to set aside, vacate and quash the service, and the motion was granted.””
