Most-quoted passages
The sentences later courts lift from this opinion, ranked by how many decisions quote each — the parts of the opinion doing the work. These counts are smaller than the citation total above because most of the 6 citing decisions cite the case generally; a passage count includes only decisions quoting that exact language verbatim.
““It may be urged that the language in the Langley Case, ‘it may do so without stating any cause,’ impliedly holds there must be cause, but that such cause need not be stated by the court. In the instant case the chancellor, at the term from which this appeal comes, explained what his purpose was. Yet, regardless of the apparent sufficiency or insufficiency of the reason, the fact remains that it was the court’s intention to set the decree aside, and this right is not to be denied. A sufficient purpose was stated: ‘to enable the defendants to present the matter at the coming* term of court. ’ ’ ’”
