Most-quoted passages

The sentences later courts lift from this opinion, ranked by how many decisions quote each — the parts of the opinion doing the work. These counts are smaller than the citation total above because most of the 67 citing decisions cite the case generally; a passage count includes only decisions quoting that exact language verbatim.

  1. “On appeal, divorce cases are reviewed de novo. We review the circuit court’s findings pertaining to division of property and alimony and affirm them unless they are clearly erroneous or against the preponderance of evidence. A finding is clearly erroneous when the reviewing court, on the entire evidence, is left with the definite and firm conviction that a mistake has been committed. The appellant must show that the trial court abused its discretion by making a decision that was arbitrary or grotindless. We give due deference to the circuit judge’s position to determine the credibility of witnesses and the weight given to their testimony.”
