Later decisions citing this case, by decade. The current decade is in progress, and our corpus holds fewer opinions from the most recent years, so the latest bars are undercounted — not a real decline.

Most-quoted passages

The sentences later courts lift from this opinion, ranked by how many decisions quote each — the parts of the opinion doing the work. These counts are smaller than the citation total above because most of the 13 citing decisions cite the case generally; a passage count includes only decisions quoting that exact language verbatim.

  1. ““At the close of the State’s evidence, the defendant moved the court to exclude all of the testimony on the grounds that there was not sufficient evidence to make out a case. When this motion is made and there is any evidence tending to connect the defendant with the commission of the crime, either direct or by inferences, the motion is properly overruled. In this instance there was sufficient evidence, both of the corpus delicti and the guilt of the defendant. The motion was properly overruled.””
