<bold>[1] Limitation of Actions — Insurance — Action on Policy —</bold> <bold>Limitation — Validity.</bold> Under RCW <cross_reference>48.18.200</cross_reference>, which prohibits a property insurance policy from limiting the period for bringing an action against the insurer to less than 1 year from the date of loss, a 1-year limitation is valid. <bold>[2] Insurance — Action on Policy — Limitation — Inception of</bold> <bold>Loss.</bold> Under a property insurance policy which requires that an action against the insurer commence within a specified period from the "inception of the loss," the period begins to run on the date the loss occurs rather than on the date the cause of action accrues. <bold>[3] Insurance — Action on Policy — Limitation — Prejudice —</bold> <bold>Necessity.</bold> There is no requirement that an insurer demonstrate prejudice from delay in order to enforce a limitation period for the commencement of an action on the policy. <bold>[4] Consumer Protection — Insurance — Action on Policy —</bold> <bold>Limitation — Applicability.</bold> An action for a violation of the Consumer Protection Act involving an insurance policy is governed by the limitation period contained in the act (RCW <cross_reference>19.86.120</cross_reference>) rather than by the policy limitation period.
