<bold>Pauper — legal settlement — effect of prison term</bold>. <block_quote> The father of dependent children was a resident and had legal settlement for poor-relief purposes in Goodhue County at the time he was sentenced to a 3-year term in the State Prison. The mother of the children moved with them to Stearns County, where thereafter the children were placed in legal custody of that county's welfare department and by it placed in boarding homes. The parents were subsequently divorced but the judgment and decree made no mention of the children, and they were apparently abandoned by their mother. Upon his release from prison, the father established residence in Rice County for a continuous period of more than one year. In a dispute between Rice and Goodhue Counties as to which was the county of legal settlement for poor-relief purposes, <italic>held</italic>, legal settlement gained in Goodhue County was not divested to Rice County inasmuch as the times during which the father was imprisoned and the times during which public funds were used for the support of his children must be excluded from the computation of time for establishing new legal settlement elsewhere.
