Most-quoted passages

The sentences later courts lift from this opinion, ranked by how many decisions quote each — the parts of the opinion doing the work. These counts are smaller than the citation total above because most of the 7 citing decisions cite the case generally; a passage count includes only decisions quoting that exact language verbatim.

  1. “[T]he need, breadth, and formation of additional jury instructions are left to the sound discretion of the trial court. Indeed, where the jury requests further instructions upon a particular phase of the case, the court in its discretion may recharge them in full, or only upon the point or points requested. Here, because the trial court gave additional instructions to the jury which addressed only the jury's specific question[ about whether the armed robbery could be changed to robbery], we find no abuse of discretion.”
