Most-quoted passages
The sentences later courts lift from this opinion, ranked by how many decisions quote each — the parts of the opinion doing the work. These counts are smaller than the citation total above because most of the 11 citing decisions cite the case generally; a passage count includes only decisions quoting that exact language verbatim.
“But an agreement to enter a contract where the latter contract is to run for longer than a year is not within the statute of frauds. ... In the case at bar, the terms of the partnership agreement were that a bid should be submitted and that an attempt should be made to obtain the contract. If the attempt had been made, and the contract had not been obtained, the agreement would have been performed at that time. “It has been repeatedly held that, if an agreement whose performance would otherwise extend beyond a year may be completely performed within a year on the happening of some contingency, it is not within the statute of frauds.””
