¶2I respectfully dissented from the original majority opinion because it failed to persuade me that the rule of Edwards v. Arizona, 451 U.S. 477, 101 S.Ct. 1880, 68 L.Ed.2d 378 (1981), should be applied prospectively only. I was persuaded to the contrary by Justice Marcus’ opinion on rehearing, however, and at that time joined the majority.
