Most-quoted passages
The sentences later courts lift from this opinion, ranked by how many decisions quote each — the parts of the opinion doing the work. These counts are smaller than the citation total above because most of the 16 citing decisions cite the case generally; a passage count includes only decisions quoting that exact language verbatim.
““If he had been allowed to proceed and had succeeded, such contradictory statements might have influenced the decision of the entire case. Nothing which occurred at the trial would have been more helpful to the court in arriving at the truth than to know whether the prosecutrix had told the identical story each time she had related it or whether she had varied it or added to it after her first narration, and nothing could have been more vital to defendant’s case than to be able to show that she had made conflicting statements.””
