“Among the indispensable conditions of the valid gift ... [is] ... the irrevocable transfer of the present title, dominion, and control of the thing given to the donee, so that the donor can exercise no further act of the dominion or control over it. A mere intention to make a gift, however clearly expressed, which has not been carried into effect, amounts to nothing, and enforces no rights in the subject matter of the proposed gift upon the intended donee.
