Most-quoted passages
The sentences later courts lift from this opinion, ranked by how many decisions quote each — the parts of the opinion doing the work. These counts are smaller than the citation total above because most of the 20 citing decisions cite the case generally; a passage count includes only decisions quoting that exact language verbatim.
““The burden was cast upon him and his co-tenants to pay the taxes assessed against the land. This each might have discharged, so far as his own interest ras concerned, by paying his aliquot proportion of the tax, and thus relieve such interest from the lien for the tax which the law imposed upon it. Had Crane done this, and after-wards bid in his co-tenants’ interest sold for their default, perhaps a different rule might obtain, and he have acquired a good title as against them; but such is not this case.””
