Most-quoted passages
The sentences later courts lift from this opinion, ranked by how many decisions quote each — the parts of the opinion doing the work. These counts are smaller than the citation total above because most of the 10 citing decisions cite the case generally; a passage count includes only decisions quoting that exact language verbatim.
“It is only in strong cases which form exceptions that there could be decreed a strict foreclosure or a sale without redemption, and then only in rare cases, when, perhaps, the property is of less value than the debt for which it is mortgaged, and the mortgagor is insolvent, and the mortgagee is willing to take the property in discharge of the debt. But it is not proper when- there are other encumbrances upon the property, or creditors, or purchasers of the equity of redemption.”
