““From these the plaintiff was led to believe that Gillespie had authority and relied upon what he told him. If a person knowingly causes or permits another to act as though he were his agent, he is estopped to deny such agency to the injury of a third person who, relying upon the appearance of agency, in good faith and without negligence, dealt with such agent.
