JAMES CARL HAS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED THESE SPECIALIZED ANALYSES AND SIMULATIONS FOR NASA. THIS CONTRACT PROVIDES MANPOWER FOR THE SIMULATION AND ANALYSIS OF THE DIRECTED MICROWAVE ENERGY FOR SELECTIVELY HEATING IN VARIOUS DENTAL SUPPLICATIONS AND SINTERING VARIOUS TYPES OF LUNAR SOILS. THE TASKS INCLUDE: (1)THE DESIGN OF A KA-BAND AND A C-BAND ANTENNA THAT IS MATCHED TO THE VARIOUS COMPOSITES SUPPLIES BY BIOMAT SCIENCES. (2) PERFORM HEATING ANALYSES OF TEETH TISSUE (DENTURE, ENAMEL AND NERVES) FOR KA-BAND FREQUENCIES TO ASCERTAIN POSSIBLE ABLAION PROBLEMS. (3) THE INVESTIGATION OF MICROWAVE HEATING OF FINE LUNAR SOIL FOR SINTERING PURPOSE WILL BE UNDERTAKEN. (4)SIMILAR ANALYSES AND SIMULATIONS WILL BE PERFORMED FOR VARIOUS TYPES OF LUNAR SOILS. (5)PERFORM OTHER ANALYSES/SIMULATIONS AS NEEDED. THIS PARTICULAR WORK IS CONSIDERED AN EXTENSION OF THE EXISTING WORK BY JAMES CARL SINCE HIS MATH MODELS FOR MICROWAVE HEATING/THERMALS CONDUCTION ARE NO BEING USED BY NASA. HE HAS PREVIOUSLY DESIGNED MICROWAVE ANTENNAS WHICH ARE PROPERLY MATCHED TO DENTAL TISSUE. THESE ANTENNAS ARE STILL BEING USED BY NASA-EV4, BUT KNOW WE HAVE ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR A NEW ANTENNA. SINCE THIS A RESEARCH PROGRAM WITH LITTLE GUIDANCE AS TO THE OPTIMUM MICROWAVE CONFIGURATION, CLOSE EXPERIMENT INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THE NASA RESEARCHERS AND CARL ARE REQUIRED. THIS CONTRACT WILL INCLUDE THE ANALYSIS AND SIMULATIONS FOR HEATING (TO THE POINT OF THERMAL ABLATION) OF CERTAIN DENTAL TISSUE AND LUNAR SOILS. OF PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE IS THE INTERACTIONS OF THE MICROWAVE ENERGY WITH THE EM SHIELDING AROUND THE DENTAL TISSUE.
