Denotes the sum of money equivalent to a pound sterling. Occurs in early English records and writings, generally with some qualifying words annexed; as, librae arsae, pounds in coin tested by assaying; librae numeratae, pounds reckoned by number, not by weight; librae pensatae, pounds weighed, or reckoned by weight.
