For. The frequent use of this word to introduce a Latin maxim has sometimes caused such maxims to be quoted as if commencing with " nam." As it is not strictly the initial word of any maxim included in this work, the definition of any maxim so quoted should be sought in its alphabetical place. Thus nam quisque scire debet cum quo contrahit — for one oaght to know with whom he contracts — is treated in this work under quisque scire, &c.
