On account of; for. This Latin preposition introduces several phrases; among which are: Propter affectum. On account of affection; for bias; for favorable inclination. This phrase expresses a ground of challenge to a juror, such as relationship to the party.
Propter defectum
On account of defect; for incompetency. Grounds of challenge to a juryman propter defectum are, that he is an alien, a minor, &c.
Propter delictum
On account of crime. A juror may be challenged propter delictum who has been convicted of an infamous crime.
