Dictionary of Terms and Phrases Used in American or English Jurisprudence

To abrogate, annul, avoid, or cancel a contract; spoken particularly of nullifying a contract by the act of a party. Rescission: the act or step of abrogating or declaring null a contract, particularly when by one of the parties. Thus one speaks of a buyer's right to rescind a contract of sale, because the thing delivered proved worthless.

Rescissory action

A term of Scotch law, meaning an action to have a contract rescinded.
