Dictionary of Terms and Phrases Used in American or English Jurisprudence

Suppression of truth; concealment of facts. The suppressio veri, as well as the direct suggestio falsi, with which it is often contrasted, is deemed fraud on the part of one bound to disclose the truth. This doctrine is expressed in the form of a maxim: suppressio veri, suggestio falsi, — suppression of truth is equivalent to the statement of what is false. It is a rule of equity as well as of law, that a suppressio veri is equivalent to a suggestio falsi; and where either the suppression of the truth or the suggestion of what is false can be proved, in a fact material to the contract, the party Injured may have relief against the contract.
