In old English law. An advocate or pleader; a patron or defender; a person having a right to present to a church; an advowee; one who was called or vouched to warranty; a vouchee.
In the civil law. One who managed, or assisted in managing, the cause of another; an advooata Advocatus flsci: advocate of the flsc, or treasury.
