A Dictionary of Law
One of the parts of an indenture which lay opposite or counter to each other.' A duplicate copy. Indentures were originally written twice on the same sheet of parchment with a space in the middle — where it was afterward divided.^ When the several parts of an indenture are interchangeably executed by the parties that part or copy which is executed by the grantor is called the original, and the rest counterparts.^
