A Dictionary of Law
Referring to property taken under the power of eminent domain, means the same as "take." 2 While the Fourteenth Amendment ordains that no State shall "deprive any person of lite, liberty, or property without due process of law," no definition of the word " deprive " is found in the Constitution. To determine its signification, therefore, it is necessary to ascertain the effect which usage has given it when employed in the same or a like connection.'
