A subtle endeavoring to set aside the truth or to escape the punishment of the law.* Evasive. Tending to evade; avoiding: as, an evasive — affidavit, answer, plea, argument. Parties are sometimes said to evade, or to seek to evade, the jurisdiction of a particular court, the operation of an obnoxious law, the payment of a tax, service of process.
