A Dictionary of Law

A section of a building between horizontal planes. The words, used in a lease, the "first floor" are equivalent to the " first story " of the building, and naturally include the walls, unless other words control such meaning. A covenant by a lessee not to underlet any part of the premises is not broken by his allowing a third person, in consideration of an annual payment, to place a sign upon the outside wall, for a stated time.**
