Bawd

* One who procures opportunities for persons of opposite sexes to cohabit in an illicit manner.^ Bawdy-house. A house of ill-fame; a house kept for the resort and unlawful con- -venience of lewd people of both sexes; a house resorted to for purposes of lewdness and prostitution.' The prosecution having shown that the defendant is the keeper of a house alleged to be a common bawdy-house, testimony as to the general reputation of the house, of the persons who frequent it, and of the defendant, is admissible, as tending to show the real character of the house.' Keeping a bawdy-house is Indictable as a common nuisance at common law."
