8 Compensation, recompense; satisfaction, amends.

Synonymous with French estovers, q. v. Housebote: sufficient wood from another's land to repair, or to be burnt in, one's house; whence ^re-ftoie. Ploughbote, cart-bote: wood for making and repairing instruments of husbandry. Hay-bote,, hedge-bote: wood for repairing hay, hedges, or fences."
