I In old English law. An assignee, or assign. A person assigned or appointed to a particular duty. Assignatas ntitur jure aoctoris: an assignee uses the right of Iiis principal; an assignee is clothed with the rights of his principal.
In the civil law. A person assigned or set over to another; as, a freed man to a particular child.
