Ballium. L. Lat. [Ital. balio, from Or. ^alsiv, or ^al Xeiv, to commit.] In old Italian law. Protection, guardianship, education. Pupilli qui protectione balii indigere noscantur, ipsorum balium cum administrations bonorum eis coniingentium curia nostra suscipiat; whatever minors shall be known to need the protection of guardianship, our court shall undertake their guardianship, with the management of the property belonging to them.
