A Dictionary of Law
An obligation is conditional when the rights or duties of any party thereto depend upon the oecurrence of an uncertain event.

The Lonisiana Code defines conditional obligations as those which result from the operation of law, from the nature of the contract, or from the presumed intent of the parties.
