Damages awarded by a jury which are grossly in excess of the amount warranted by law on the facts and circumstances of the case; unreasonable or outrageous damages. A verdict giving excessive damages is ground for a new trial. Excessivum in jure reprobatur. Excessus in re qualibet jure reprobatur communi. Oo. Litt. 44 Excess in law is reprehended, Excess in anything is reprehended at common law.
