Black's Law Dictionary

In civil and feudal law. A half-brother by the father's side, as distinguished from frater uterinus, a brother by the mother's side. Consanguineus est quasi eodem sanguine natns.

A person related by consanguinity is, as It were, sprung from the same blood.
