Black's Law Dictionary
A clause of warranty inserted in a deed of lands, by which the grantor covenants, for himself and his heirs, to "warrant and forever defend" the title to the same, to the grantee and his heirs, etc., against ali persons claiming "by, through, or under" the grantor or his heirs. If the warranty is against the claims of nil persons whatsoever, it is called a "general" warranty.
