A Law Dictionary, Adapted to the Constitution and Laws of the United States

contracts, is a separate obligation which is attached to another contract, and is to guaranty its performance. By this term is also meant the transfer of property or, of other contracts to insure the performance of a principal engagement. property or securities thus conveyed are also called collateral securities.
