A Law Dictionary, Adapted to the Constitution and Laws of the United States
The name of one of the territories of the United States of America. It was purchased from Spain by treaty between the United States and Spain, executed at Washington on the twenty-second day of February, in the year one thousand eight hundred and nineteen. Congress established a temporary government for Fast and West Florida by the act of March 3, 1819, 3 Story’s L. U. 8S. 1745; and by the act of March 30, 1822, Ib. 1828, it 1s enacted that all the territory ceded by Spain to the United States, known by the name of East and West Florida, shall constitute a territory of the United States.
