A Law Dictionary, Adapted to the Constitution and Laws of the United States

crim. law. One who maliciously and wilfully sets another person’s house on fire; one guilty of the crime of arson. This offender is punished by the statute laws of the different states according to their several provisions. The civil law punished him with death, Dig. 47, 9, 12, 1, by being cast into the fire.
