In Civil Law. A mutual agreement, of which the effects, with respect hoth to the advantages and losses, whether to all the parties or to some of them, depend on an uncertain event. La. Civ. Code, art.

The term includes contracts, such as insurance, annuities, and the like. See Gaming; Majbgin; Option. An aleatory sale is one the completion of which depends on the happening of an uncertain event. ALER SANS JOUR (Fr. aller sans jour, to go without day). A phrase formerly used to indicate the final dismissal of a case from court. The defendant was then at liberty to go, without any day appointed for his subsequent appearance; Kitchin, Courts 146; Tonnes de la Ley.
