That relationship which subsists between pei who have the same ancestors but not the same descendants, — who do not descend one from the other.

The essential fact of consanguinity (common ancestral blood) is the same in lineal and collateral consanguinity; but the relationship is aside from the direct line. Thus, father, son, and grandson are lineally related; uncle and nephew, collaterally. having general jurisdiction of the subject.
