A literary production composed of the works of others and arranged in a methodical manner. A compilation requiring, in its execution, taste, learning, discrimination, and intellectual labor, is an object of copyright {q. v.); as, for example, Bacon's Abridgment Curtis, Copyr. 186. A compilation consists of selected extracts from different authors; an abridgment is a condensation of the views of an author; Story v. llolcombe, 4 Mc Lean 314, Fed. Cas. No. 13,497.
