In Old Pleading. Bad; defective in law; null; naught; the opposite of good or valid. iLL..FAME. A technical expression, which not only means bad character as generally understood, but applies to every person, whatever may be his conduct and character in life, who visits bawdy-houses, gaminghouses, and other places which are of iilfame.

The common interpretation of the term “house of ill-fame’’ is as a mere synonym for “bawdy-house,’’ having no reference to the fame of the place. See Disoederlt House; House op III- Fame.
