Bouvier's Law Dictionary and Concise Encyclopedia
A slip of ribbon, parchment, or paper, attached to a deed or other writing to hold the appended seal. In the ordinary use of the word, it is a slip of paper attached to articles of manufacture for the purpose of describing them or specifying their quality, etc., or the name of the maker. The use of a label has been distinguished from a trade-mark proper; Browne, Trade-Marks §§ 133, 537, 538. The use of labels will be protected by a court of equity under some circumstances; id.
