The term does not mean newspapers or perhaps even include them within the meaning of a statute, the object of which is to prevent a jury from receiving any evidence, papers, or documents not authorized by the court.

In a will, “all my books and papers” include a promissory note; Perkins v. Mathos, 49 N. H. 107. The constitution of the United States provides that the rights of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures shall not be violated.
