ROADWAY.

The roadbed of 'a railroad “is the foundation upon which the superstructure of a railroad rests;” the roadway is the right of way which has been held to be the property liable to taxation; Appeal of North Beach & M. R. Co., 32 Cal. 499, cited in Santa Clara Co. v. R. Co., 118 U. S. 413, 6 Sup. Ct. 1132, 30 L. Ed. 118. The roadbed does not include ends of ties of unusual length; Standard Ins. Co. v. Langston, 00 Ark. 381, 30 S. W. 427. A space of 10 ft. between railroad tracks is not the roadbed; Meadows v. Ins. Co., 129 Mo. 76, 31 S. W. 578, 50 Am. St. Rep. 427.
