To take an oath administered by some officer duly empowered. One may swear who is not duly sworn; and in such case the oath is not administered, but self-imposed, and the swearer incurs no legal liability thereabout; U. S. v. Mc- Conaughy, 33 Fed. 168. See Jury; Oath. To use such profane language as is forbidden by law. This is generally punished by statutory provisions in the several states.
