Bouvier's Law Dictionary and Concise Encyclopedia
The act of laying hold upon an article, with or without removing the same. See Larceny; Robbery. It implies a transfer of possession, dominion, or control. A thing is not taken unless such a change of status is effected. In trespass, trover, or replevin the taking is not accomplished until the goods are within the power or control of the defendant.
