A New Law Dictionary and Glossary
Lat. [from ab, from, and alienatio, a transfer.] In the Roman law. The transfer, conveyance, or alienation of property from one person to another. This compound term occurs frequently in classical writers, but gave place to the simple alienatio, which is the term used in the civil law, and from which the English alienation has been formed.
