A New Law Dictionary and Glossary
[Lat. abductio, from abducere, to lead away.] In criminal law. The offence of taking away a man's wife, child or ward, by fraud and persuasion, or open violence.

The term is applied also to the unlawful taking, or detention of any female, for the purpose of marriage, concubinage or prostitution.
